How do I know If I’ve been shadow banned on TikTok?

The most effective solution to understand if you are shadowbanned is to use our TikTok Shadowban checker. The result of the shadowban test allows you to understand the severity of the damage and effectively solve the problem.

What’s the added value of our software?

When TikTok Shadowban Tool scans your content, not only checks if you comply with all the official guidelines, but it also evaluates if you have violated any of the “TikTok’s unwritten rules”. These are directives that haven’t been officially confirmed or communicated by the app but that often are the reason for penalisation and shadowban.

TikTok

TikTok has become the most downloaded app in the world. A quarter of the entire world population is registered on TikTok.

To find out how to remove the TikTok shadowban it is crucial to read till the end what follows.

The owner of TikTok, the Chinese startup Byte Dance, whose estimated value exceeds 150 billion dollars is regulated by the Chinese government. Within the ByteDance board there is a communist party committee which ensures that, along with TikTok’s business goals, the party’s political objectives are also pursued.

The dream of many kids is to be successful on TikTok. The app has been downloaded more than 3 billion times worldwide, making it a cultural phenomenon. The goal for most users on TikTok is to go viral. A dance routine created by someone in their home and launched on TikTok could end up being performed by an audience of an entire stadium worldwide.

A video that becomes viral has an average of 14 million views.

Thousands of 19-year-olds drop out of school every year to pursue their careers on TikTok.

TikTok’s business model is based on advertising: companies sponsor successful influencers and pay TikTok to place their advertising on the platform.

Among all social networks, TikTok turns out to be the one that creates the most addiction. From TikTok advertising data recently analysed, it appears that, on average, users spend an hour and a half of their time a day on the app.

Recent studies show that the For You page can be addictive.

How the TikTok algorithm works

TikTok’s most valuable asset is its algorithm. It is designed to detect your interests and show you the most related content in order to keep you hooked on the app for as long as possible.

The platform determines the content to offer to its users based on their activity on the application.

Instead of searching and selecting content to watch, as you would do on Youtube or Netflix, on TikTok you can access videos through a single main feed which is the “For You” page. This main feed is a sort of endless bulletin board that offers content selected by the algorithm and that is updated each time TikTok is opened.

TikTok collects facial data

TikTok’s Privacy Policy allows the platform to collect biometric information in the form of “faceprints and voiceprints”. These are data that can be analysed to identify a personality type and other demographic traits.

The social networks collects facial data every time you record a video or use a filter on the application. It can also access photos and videos saved on your phone’s storage space even if they are not uploaded to the platform.

To understand how the application interprets the data, scientists from the University of Melbourne have created a technology that can be defined as a “biometric mirror”.

The “biometric mirror” uses an artificial intelligence trained to understand your level of knowledge, age, gender, responsibility, humility, reliability and even how strong or fragile you are at an emotional level.

The biometric mirror draws its results via a single image (facial scan).

TikTok’s algorithm scanning your face in a microsecond can understand if you are facing a tough moment and direct you to content from other people who also have mental health issues. This can drastically affect your feelings and make it even more difficult to overcome problems or  mental illness that afflict you.

How long will TikTok shadow ban me?

TikTok shadowban can be temporary or permanent. In other words, the shadowban is a filter that hides your content on the platform.

Thousands of our clients told us “TikTok shadow banned me for no reason!!” and we can confirm that often TikTok shadowban may occur unfairly.

TikTok uses automatic tools to filter its content but a large part of the system is based on moderation. If we take into account the amount of videos and the frequency with which they are uploaded, it would be quite impossible for the moderators to intercept every video which doesn’t adhere to the app’s guidelines.

In other words, the shadowban on TikTok makes your videos invisible or difficult to reach.

For creators, influencers, brands and anyone who uses TikTok, the shadowban is a real nightmare as it drastically lowers visibility, growth and  the possibility for monetisation of the account.

It is important to remember that sometimes, your account isn’t shadowbanned.

Sometimes your content simply doesn’t provide high quality standards or it doesn’t interest lots of people and consequently doesn’t reach the “For You” section. For this reason it is crucial to check the status of your account with the Shadowban Tool Test which analyses data, video content and published audios.

What happens when you get shadowbanned on TikTok

If you are shadowbanned on TikTok your content will not appear:

  • in the “For You” section on TikTok
  • in hashtag search
  • in the song search

If you are shadow banned, even old videos won’t end up in TikTok’s “For You” section for about 90 days. Ninety days is an estimated figure based on the experience of many TikTok users whom we’ve helped get rid of the TikTok shadowban.

How do I know If I’ve been shadow banned on TikTok?

The most effective solution to understand if you are shadowbanned on Tik Tok is to use our Shadowban Tool Test. The result of the TikTok shadowban tester allows you to understand the severity of the damage and effectively solve the problem.

According to several TikTok experts, the limitation could even extend to your device and IP address.

Your TikTok account could probably become the target of shadowban when you say words related to racism. If in a video you say words such as “black” it will most likely be censored.

In the next paragraph, you will find a list of all the other reasons why you may have been penalised.

Remember: when you publish this type of content, you can still see it, but other people can’t even if they try to search for it directly on your account. So your content is on TikTok but it can’t get views.

Since TikTok doesn’t inform its users via notifications or messages and does not limit the content upload functions, you cannot tell if you are shadowbanned or not. This is exactly why we invented the Shadow Ban Tool Test.

Try the TikTok ShadowBan Tool if you notice these changes:

  • A drastic drop in your views
  • Some videos have no views even though they are not in review
  • In your last 10 videos there is not even a view that comes from the “For You” page
  • Looking at your statistics, you see that the percentage of views from those who follow you is lower than usual

Why use the TikTok shadow ban tool test

One of the biggest problems of TikTok is the fact that it is very difficult to understand and identify all those cases in which the shadowban is applied. This causes some contents on the application to be hidden unbeknownst to its users.

The Ice Figure Skater who was wrongly shadow banned

This is the experience of one of our customers who used our Shadow Ban Tool Checker and Remover to find out if and why his account was shadowbanned.

A tiktoker with more than 200k followers who is an ice figure skater had posted a video of his new skates. The TikTok algorithm wrongly associated the blade of the skates as a weapon and penalised the account for more than a month. Thanks to our ShadowBan Test which also analysed his content, the skater discovered that he was shadow banned and why.

Learn more about how the algorithm works and how we can help you solve your visibility problems and authority score.

How long does the TikTok shadowban last?

TikTok has never officially communicated how long the limitation may last. According to our estimates it can be a very variable period which can range from 7 to 90 days. For this reason we recommend checking if you have been shadowbanned multiple times using our Shadowban Checker!

Why did I get shadowbanned?

These are the reasons, listed in order of importance, why you may have been penalised by TikTok:

TikTok shadowban causes:

  • your content doesn’t meet the TikTok community guidelines
  • your account has been reported by several users or the topics you deal with trigger negative emotions in those who watch your content
  • you wrote spam comments on many users’ videos
  • you shared content with other users’ watermark: in this case Tik Tok understands that your videos are not original and you have not right to use or share them
  • during live videos you insulted other tiktokers
  • you used songs that violate music copyright
  • in your videos, there are illegal elements such as weapons, blades, drugs etc..
  • there are children under 13 in your videos
  • you deleted all your posts in one go instead of archiving them as the platform suggests
  • there are nude scenes strictly prohibited by TikTok
  • you’ve used bad language or language that is not in line with TikTok guidelines

TikTok’s business strategy is all about creating a fun, bright, and glamorous version of the world.

The company strictly monitors content that does not match this vision.

In the documentary “TikTok The World’s Most Popular App” by filmmaker Avani Dias, we discovered that there are other shocking and unacceptable reasons why some of your TikTok videos may have been censored by the platform.

The reasons above are all listed in the aforementioned documentary, which are also at the base of the development of our algorithm and this page.

The documents also revealed that videos of overweight/obese people or with an unpleasant physiognomy, such as many wrinkles or other disabilities, would be hidden.

TikTok has publicly declared that these guidelines have now been removed.

In 2020, black creators decided to collectively abandon the platform in a digital, global movement which has taken the name of “blackout“. As part of the protest, on set days, all activity on the app ceased, encouraging other creators to boycott TikTok to challenge the passive and indifferent behaviour against the black community.

That was the first protest against the shadowban on TikTok, meaning that videos are unfairly  hidden from the feed, censored and therefore seen by few or no people.

TikTok denies having ever discriminated against specific creators or certain communities on the platform and has communicated that it welcomes diversity on its app. However, in 2023 there are still many penalties.
